What does the "Plan It!" button do?
The 'Plan-It!' button is our online virtual travel agent that is there to help you plan your trip by providing you with relevant recommendations that you can then narrow and filter down. We have two features that are built into our 'Plan-It!' button:
(1) one-click travel planning and (2) fill in the gaps
"One-Click Travel Planning" - Our recommendation engine takes quite a few things into account when creating a custom trip itinerary for you - location of the items, open hours, popular activities, friends' recommendations, price, how active you want to be, your previous history, and more. AND, our engine gets 'smarter' the more you use it, so you'll see better results on your next trip!
"Fill in the gaps" -If you already know that you'd like to do certain things on certain days, just add those items onto your calendar. If you need some help finding things to do during your free time, click the 'Plan-It!' button and it will provide recommendations for the times that you're available. Use our filtering engines to return more relevant items based on your preferences.
How do I access the mobile features I keep hearing about?
GoPlanit realizes that the planning process doesn't just stop once you've created a trip. So, we've created mobile features that you can take with you on your trip.
To access these features, use your web-enabled mobile phone to go to:
- iphone.goplanit.com (for iphone users)
- m.goplanit.com (for all other web-enabled phones)
From there, you can access weather forecasts, your itineraries, and details about the items on your trip. You can also search for nearby activities, restaurants, and hotels in case your plans change.
If you do not have a web-enabled phone, have no fear. We will be creating more functionality for you as well. But, for the time being, you can still use our travel microblogging feature.
What is travel microblogging?
Travel microblogging means being able to rate, review, and write about the things you are doing whenever and wherever. No more forgetting about what you did or what you thought of the places you went. You can do this from any mobile phone that has text messaging capabilities.
How do I use the travel microblogging feature?
From your mobile phone,
- Send a text to 70589 and begin your message with the word "Blog". For example, Blog 5 stars I really love this restaurant.
- Or, send an email to email@example.com and write your message. There is no character limit if you choose to email.
When you go back to your itinerary, you'll notice that we've included your message in your trip journal, attached the item you were talking about, and rated the item based on what you said in your message.
How do I add items to an itinerary?
The easiest way to start is by using our "Plan it!" feature. This will create a custom plan for you at the click of a button. It takes into account friend's recommendations and each item's popularity, rating, location, hours of operation, and more.
If you want to add a specific item to an itinerary, either click on the calendar or on the "Add Item" button. Navigate to the item you'd like to add either through our recommendations, or through our search, and click "Add" to add it to the plan. If we don't have what you're looking for, feel free to create a custom item by selecting the "Create Item" tab from the "Add Item" window.
Can I export to iCal, Outlook, or Google Calendar?
Yes! Through the "Export" link in the upper right hand portion of the itinerary tool page, you'll find links to either subscribe to the calendar to receive updates automatically, download a static copy of the calendar, or a public URL that you can share with anyone, regardless of whether they're a user of GoPlanit or not.
How can I get directions, and save them for later?
Using the map portion of the planning tool, you can select any item which has an address and get directions either to, or from the item. After you've mapped directions, you'll notice a "Save Directions" button appear below the map. Clicking this will add the directions to the bottom of the itinerary on the right side of the page.
How do I adjust my privacy settings for the news feed?
Click the "Settings" link under your profile picture and choose the "Privacy" settings area. Unchecking any of the privacy settings will remove your published updates from your friends' feeds. Note that this can take up to an hour to process.
How do I adjust my email settings?
Click the "Settings" link under your profile picture and choose the "Email" settings area. Unchecking any of these settings will remove you from their respective email notification lists.
